It’s very disappointing to see that many in the mortgage and real estate industries are much more interested in making excuses for their lack of performance than finding the solutions behind their shortfalls! You would think that given everything that has gone on in 2023, that nobody sold a house or did a single loan. The seemingly endless negativity and excuses for why people aren’t doing better are getting a bit much. Why is it so? While the final numbers are not yet in, it is likely that somewhere between five and six MILLION homes were sold in 2023. While certainly not a record, certainly not the worst year in the last twenty years.
I recently saw that a manager stated, if we get more inventory, we will have a better year! That is wrong on so many levels it’s hard to deal with. What inventory are you talking about? While markets vary, nationally homes for sale keeps rising! But the real question should be, if you think homes for sale inventory is the reason your business isn’t better, WHAT ARE THE FIVE THINGS YOU ARE DOING TO HELP GENERATE THAT NEEDED INVENTORY EVERY DAY? Now I don’t believe inventory is the issue, but if it is in your area, what are you going to do about it?
Nobody is going to sell a house or refinance out of a 4% or lower mortgage! Nice try! MILLIONS of homes were sold or refinanced last year that had 4% or lower mortgage rates. People’s lives change. Situations change. Opportunities present themselves and the rate on the mortgage is only part of a total monthly budget.
Yes, total sales and refinances will have been lower in 2023 than in 2022. But given all the reports of loan officers and real estate salespeople leaving the business, why aren’t you picking up that lost market share? By the way, there were mortgage people and real estate people who had better years in 2023 than they did in 2022! If you would like to know how they did it, please feel free to reach out and ask me!
