You can’t win if you don’t communicate effectively. Unfortunately, too many people fail to understand the value in just TALKING to people. I know it is easier just to text and move on, but just like email, you can end up in a death spiral of the dreaded “text chain”. Just like we saw with email, the seemingly never-ending series of emails going back and forth forever to settle a simple question or two that should have been dealt with in one two-to-three-minute conversation over the phone! Don’t get me wrong, sometimes a simple text for a simple question or statement of fact is fine, but a personal conversation allows you to hear the tone and emphasis of the other party and better understand the situation. We have all seen what happens when even the simplest statement gets taken out of context!
By using the phone to first have a conversation, you can eliminate many potentially frustrating follow-up questions over days and maybe weeks! It also helps provoke different avenues of conversation that can lead to additional opportunities! How many times have you had a call with a client or referral partner that ended up resulting in a side conversation that turned into another lead or referral? The name of the game in 2025 will be to use personal conversations to generate additional opportunities that might otherwise not have taken place!
The last part of this plan is to be sure you TASK yourself at a specific day and time to follow-up with that call. Far too often, we hang up the phone without a specific plan as to what happens next, and no commitment as to when we are going to follow up and be sure things are done as agreed! Remember, “stuff gets in your way if you don’t schedule your day!” A simple task to reconnect or to follow through can make all the difference!
Last but not least; the BLS jobs report torpedoed the markets last Friday. Nice to see that PPI & CPI have helped us recover some of the losses. My hope is that in 2025, someone with a brain revamps the BLS with a real system using real numbers! Remember, keep talking to your people! [email protected]
